The Thermal Engraving Unit has arrived. It looks like some sort of nuclear testing device from the 50’s. It’s awesome. I want to paint something with inks and use the embossing powder to see if it will all mush together or if it will puff up but maintain the color shapes. OOOOOH. I want to do it now. I need a heat gun. It will work with a heat gun as well as the nuclear testing device from the 50’s I’m told. All over that. Besides, I want one to melt some acrylic into shapes. BAH HA HA HA… I love justifying the purchase of tools.

I’m pretty sure the “doctor” I just saw saw used to say “When I grow up, I wanna be just like this guy”:

Only he never learned to play the blues*, so he’s just a dick.

I called the clinic yesterday to book an appointment because I have to get a doctor’s note for missing work.  She asks if I have a family physician and I say “No but I would like one.” To which, she cheerfully responds “NO APPOINTMENT FOR YOU!!”…”Walk in only, first come first serve”.

Okay, I’ll wait until a little later so it’s not too packed. Wrong choice. After standing behind a woman who was talking to the staff like she owned them I went to grab the sign in sheet and the same cheerful woman, pulled it away from me and says “No more walk ins today!”.

Okay… I’ll come back tomorrow.

It’s tomorrow now. I just recently got home. I am so mad I just finished talking about how much of an asshole this guy was on facebook!!! This is not me. I don’t do that sort of thing. But I’m not takin’ it down!!! People should be warned about this jerk! The staff at this place, super awesome. Cheerful and put up with sick people all day, I CANNOT say enough about how great they are. But this guy, other than getting good grades in med school I cannot figure out for the life of me why he is a doctor. I keep trying to justify it. Oh, he’s just having a bad day or he has to deal with sick people all day or he’s a doctor because his family made him and he really hates it and resents every patient he sees more and more throughout the day,

If you don’t want to be a doctor, don’t be a g’damn doctor. It’s people’s well being you’re screwing with you arrogant little puke. So, I still have no idea why I feel the way I do, I had to PAY for the doctors note, and if I want to ask any other questions I have to come back again. What THE F#%K???

*Incidentally, I have purchased Hugh Laurie’s CD Let Them Talk. It’s pretty great. I might write about it later. I need to relax. Grrrr

Food SHOULD Inspire Song Titles.

I don’t anticipate putting a post a day about food, but considering my kid is a genius in the kitchen (Second Star Sweets page coming soon), her BF is a chef AND my Aunt is brilliant, I’ll be putting something up now and then. None of them made this though…I think this should also be the title for a mandolin love song:

I think it’s also worth pointing out that after we had it with lightly breaded pork tenderloin medallions, we also enjoyed it on our Heavenly Hash and Mint Chocolate ice cream. WOW. Sooooo good. I have to ask the chef permission before I post his recipe:)

I’m off to dig up my favorite holiday recipe. I don’t know where this came from because I think it’s in every small town church or community cookbook I’ve ever seen. My Mom cooked it for Christmas breakfast all the time. Or at least that’s how I remember it! This is my version – I recommend playing with it however you like. I tend to double it for the big Thanksgiving and Boxing Day Ho-downs at the Hall…Wow. I’d like to blame the Buckley’s for that but I don’t think it’s that kind of cold medicine… Back to the homework:

Shwartzies Potatoes

Bag of thawed hashbrowns

2 cans of condensed mushroom soup

1 medium tub of sour cream (put the soup in first and add the sour cream until it looks mushy enough – you don’t want it to be TOO gooey)

1 cup of cheddar (I like to mix in some mozza and some parm for kicks)

1/2 chopped white /yellow onion

garlic – raw chopped or dry, depends how you’re feeling really…

Bread crumbs & cheeze mix for the top (mostly parm)

Mix it all up in a huge bowl, throw it in a casserole dish and cover it evenly with the breadcrumbs and parm. Put it in the oven for 30 minutes at 350, covered with foil. I didn’t do this last time and it browned the top way too fast. Check if the center is hot. It probably won’t be. Put it in for 15 more minutes and check it again. If it’s hot but not browned on top take off the foil and put it in again for a few minutes. If this works, repeat it again and again… You won’t have a choice, people love it. Every time you go to a pot luck they will ask for it. If it DOESN’T work, change the heat or time. You never know. I think they mean it when they say oven temperatures and times vary depending on where you are…Hmmm….
